Leighton Meester Just Wore The Coolest Polka Dot Dress — & We Know Where She Got It
Thanks to inspiration-filled fashion weeks and handfuls of new collections, early fall is always a time to experiment with trends (no matter how unexpected). 2018 has been no different — so far, we've seen the resurgence of cowboy boots, hair clips of all shapes and sizes have made their way back, and bright-colored suiting has seemed inescapable. On Tues., Leighton Meester showed the public how to wear polka dots — a print that's more polished than you'd assume.
While polka dots are often associated with pop stars of the '80s, today's version is a little different than decades past. Meester was photographed outside of Good Morning America in New York City on Tues. morning wearing a multi-print, polka dot midi dress by Semsem. Her unique getup featured not one, but two different types of polka dot fabric, diagonally criss-crossed up and down the long-sleeve dress.
The Gossip Girl actor paired the statement piece with pointed, black mules and a structured bag. Meester, who's been a bit of a hair chameleon in recent months, opted for a rich, golden-brown tone with the perfect amount of wave. She completed her black-and-white ensemble with an unexpected (and appreciated) pop of color: bright-red lipstick.
Meester appeared on the popular talk show to promote her new television series, Single Parents, which premieres Sept. 26 on ABC. As a real-life mom to a three-year-old, Meester is familiar with the concept of a one-and-done look. While her outfit may give off the impression of impeccable style, it's actually relatively easy to achieve.
Think about it: The base of the look is an asymmetrical, polka dot dress, and the rest is just a few polished accessories. Anyone looking to recreate Meester's look can keep it simple for a night out or a cocktail party by wearing a polka dot dress with a pair of patent-leather heels and a small, beaded bag. If you're ready to take your love of prints to new heights — or throw in some neon à la fashion week — pair your polka dots with a leopard-print faux-fur coat, cowboy boots, and a colorful bag.
