It's true: A bucket hat ranks at the top of 2019's list of most polarizing trends. People certainly have opinions about the accessory, but that hasn't stopped the celeb set from working the quirky 2000s staple into their off-duty getups this year. Notable names like Gigi and Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner are all fans of the controversial topper, and now, another street-style star joins the growing list of supporters: Irina Shayk, whose chic Burberry bucket hat might convince you to take the early aughts essential out for a spin this summer, too.

Shayk can pull off just about every bold trend with panache, and she proved this all the more when she stepped out in this year's most controversial fashion item. The supermodel was photographed on her way to a lunch date in West Hollywood, wearing bright-red, high-waisted trousers and cotton-jersey tank top, both from Burberry. The combo felt very 2000s, but her accessories of choice took the throwback outfit to a whole other level.

The supermodel finished off the ensemble with a pair sunglasses — which shielded her eyes from the sun's harsh UV rays and those flashing camera lights — and a Burberry bucket hat that served double duty. Not only does the latter offer up an effortless way to infuse any look with a dose of retro-inspired charm, but it's also a quick fix for a bad hair day.

Not happy with your tresses? Throw on a bucket hat. Too lazy to style your locks before heading out the door? Add in a bucket hat. It's a quick, easy beauty move that also has the power to transform an entire outfit in mere seconds.

What makes Shayk's particular find all the more appealing, though, is the print. This season, designers are releasing new, fresh takes on the bucket hat — i.e., toppers rendered in brighter, out-there shades and trend-forward motifs, all of which make the throwback accessory feel a bit more au courant.
