The inaugural award show of the new decade is here, and along with it comes the first inkling of the soon-to-trend beauty looks for this season's red carpet circuit. Case in point? Jennifer Lopez’s french manicure at the 2020 Golden Globes, which was an homage to old Hollywood glamour, according to her longtime nail artist Tom Bachik, who also works with celebs like Margot Robbie, Heidi Klum, and Selena Gomez.

The Hustlers star arrived to the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on Jan. 5 flaunting a perfect fresh manicure alongside her hard-to-miss emerald-cut engagement ring. "We decided to do a modern interpretation of a classic French, paying an homage to old hollywood [sic] glamour," said Bachik, who is also a L'Oréal Paris consulting nail expert, in an Instagram post.

Though the look is technically a throwback, it shouldn't come as such a surprise: The French manicure has been trending for months now. In fact, Sarah Gibson Tuttle, the founder of Olive & June, told TZR back in September that “French manis are back." Later that month, we saw the trend pop up on the Spring/Summer 2020 runways: Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Khaite, and Rag & Bone all debuted their own versions of the classic nail look.

While Lopez went ultra-classic with her Golden Globes nail look this year, she's had more fun with the trend in seasons past: The actor has been seen sporting a few different iterations of the classic mani. Earlier in 2019, Bachik created a gothic take on the French manicure with a black-and-white design. He also created a "tuxedo" French mani for her back in November 2019.

Earlier in the night, Bachik posted a throwback photo of J.Lo's 2016 manicure from the 73th annual Golden Globes: an inky, deep red that was perfect for winter.
