Kaia Gerber Just Debuted A Major Haircut (& She Looks So Good)
Celebrities are just like you. Once a new season rolls around, they're just as eager to switch up their look, oftentimes reaching for a pair of sheers to chop major inches off their tresses. Such is the case with model Kaia Gerber, who just debuted a new bob haircut that's going to make you reconsider lengthy locks for summer. Grab you cell phone, book an appointment at your nearest salon, and get ready to ask your go-to stylist for the "Gerber drama cut."
As is often the case, celebrity hair transformations are either unveiled at a major red-carpet event — i.e., Charlize Theron's brown hair was first spotted at the 2019 Oscars — or via Instagram (Reese Witherspoon recently posted a video showing off her summer-friendly chop to her 17.9 million followers).
It should come as no surprise that social-media savvy Gerber, whose Insta grid is the perfect mix of backstage snaps, poolside selfies, and editorial shoots, took to her Instagram on June 7 to reveal a fresh, summer perfect hairdo that you'll be running to copy right away.
"The drama cut," Gerber captioned her latest mirror selfie, in which her new chin-grazing bob immediately takes center stage. The 17-year-old has certainly toyed around with length in the past — back in 2017, she chopped her waist-grazing locks into a trendy '70s-inspired shag — but since then, she's only opted for subtle trims here and there. That is, until Fri., when she cut off a good five inches of hair.
Yep, Gerber's latest hair transformation is easily her most drastic in years — and quite possibly the shortest it's ever been. As for the mastermind behind the model's bold new chop? Hair pro Sandy Hullett and Redken Global Director, Guido Palau, who shared in a press release that the bob was all Gerber's idea.
"Kaia’s new haircut was actually inspired by her and her desire to change her look," Palau explained in the release. "We had been discussing cutting her hair for a little while now. She wanted it shorter, and for it to look a little more ‘boyish.,'" he added.
Gerber's hair color also appears to be the slightest bit lighter and warmer than her previous chocolate-brown hue — another beauty move that's not uncommon come summertime. A drastic cut balanced out by a subtle dye job? Well done, Gerber.
The model's cut is destined to be the next it-hairstyle of summer 2019, with the likes of Brie Larson, Mandy Moore, and Naomi Watts opting for their own take on the short chop.
