Now that winter is in full swing, enter a brand-new outerwear trend. One model just debuted the layer your cold-weather wardrobe needs immediately. Kaia Gerber's brown suede coat is a contemporary version of the timeless leather jacket.

Glossy leather trenches have been all the rage lately, but Gerber just gave the trend an upgrade. On Fri., the 17-year-old trendsetter was photographed leaving the Chanel offices in Paris wearing the sleekest off-duty look.

She sported a tan sweater with a pair of basic, everyday jeans and her usual combat boots. It's the coat, though, that will really catch your eye. Gerber kept warm in a single-breasted suede coat by Prada. It's the old-school jacket that's been hanging in your dad's closet for decades, but with a contemporary twist.

Boasting a dark, winter-ready chocolate hue, the lambskin number features menswear-inspired notched lapels, dropped shoulders, and front flap pockets. The coat is designed with a loose fit, hitting at the knee.

Gerber accessorized with a glossy black shoulder bag and the most retro, cat-eye sunglasses. Despite her young age, the model sure knows how to recreate the perfect vintage look. Perhaps she gets it from her mother, supermodel icon Cindy Crawford.

It was only recently that the leather jacket became the new fur coat. Glossy trenches were still so prevalent on the catwalks of Milan Fashion Week just this past fall (Prada, Max Mara, Versace, and Salvatore Ferragamo all featured the trend in their shows). Now, Gerber is redefining the classic leather layer with her latest matte variety. And when Gerber says something is a trend ... well, the industry listens.

And while Gerber's $5,000 jacket might be slightly out of your price range, there are plenty of other chic options on the market that are just begging to be introduced to your coat closet. A few of The Zoe Report's favorites, ahead.
