Chunky dad sneakers — the polarizing trend that rose in popularity in 2018 — was the sort of kickoff to this so-called "ugly" shoe apocalypse that has taken over the fashion world. Though there's certainly no denying these chunky-soled kicks are still very much here to stay, there's another equally controversial footwear style gaining serious rank this season: ugly sandals. And Kate Bosworth is wholeheartedly on board with it.

Bosworth never fails to put a stylish foot forward — and on April 17, she did so in what's bound to become summer 2019's most covetable shoe. The blonde beauty was photographed strolling Melrose Ave. on Weds., wearing a down-to-earth getup you can easily recreate, too.

The actor opted for dark-wash skinny jeans (complete with white front stitching) and an oversized, graphic tee that she tucked into her denim. A handful of must-have, warm-weather accessories, including tortoise-shell sunglasses and a black crossbody bag, rounded out her daytime look perfectly.

Bosworth is known to sprinkle at least one of-the-moment trend into all of her off-duty looks. For the Weds. outing, she chose to slip into a pair of crystal-embellished slides by Miu Miu that were right in line with 2019's ugly sandal craze. If you were ready to write off the hiker-style sandals that defined Coachella weekend one, Bosworth may just convince you to give them a second look.

Many of these "ugly" sandals that made their way down the Spring/Summer 2019 runways resembled those tourist shoes you may associate with summer vacations, but many designers, from Prada to Miu Miu, are officially churning out elevated takes. And Bosworth's black slides are a prime example.

One thing's for certain: Ugly sandals are here to stay. But if you're not quite ready to rock Tevas yet, consider checking out The Zoe Report's roundup of slightly more understated takes on the trend, below.
