The key to turning your everyday all-black outfit into a certified fashion statement has just been revealed. The plaid jacket Katherine Schwarzenegger wore over her monochromatic black is perhaps the only piece you need to make a lazy-day ensemble trendy. And best of all, her style secret doesn't cost a fortune.

A basic black-on-black formula won't always cut it in the style department, so Schwarzenegger turned to a few statement pieces to keep her look on-trend. The base of her latest outfit consisted of a plain black tee tucked into matching skinny jeans (both of which are likely already hanging in your closet). Then, she piled on a few sleek accessories: over-the-knee boots, a newsboy cap, and a boxy wool jacket in brown plaid.

Her button-up flannel is by Anine Bing, master of the retro rock n' roll tee and other statement pieces. It features a pointed collar, menswear-esque chest pockets, and drop shoulders for a relaxed fit. For less than $300, Schwarzenegger's layer is the ideal piece to keep your everyday looks stylish yet low-key during the awkward transitional period between winter and spring weather.

So many celebrities turn to Anine Bing for their edgy wardrobe staples (Gigi Hadid's studded moto boots, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's leather jacket, and Lucy Hale's black jeans, just to name a few).

As far as flannels go, the designer has pretty much perfected the lumberjack look with this buffalo check jacket. The classic red and black version was so popular, in fact, that it's currently sold out. Schwarzenegger's brown and gray alternative is all that's left, so you'd better be quick to claim it before the last little bit of jacket weather is gone for good.
