Kate Holmes Celebrated Her 40th Birthday In The Coolest Sweater
Rainbow stripes aren't always chic — in fact, they rarely are — but Katie Holmes just made them look effortlessly stylish. The actor celebrated her 40th birthday in the multicolored cardigan of your dreams on Tues. Katie Holmes' rainbow sweater will make you rekindle your love with a retro trend you thought you'd never wear again.
Jamie Foxx reportedly took Holmes and daughter Suri out for a celebratory dinner at Serendipity in the Upper East Side for the actor's birthday. She was even surprised by designer Zac Posen — whose Fall 2018 lookbook she modeled in — with a candle-lit cake, too. The Dawson's Creek actor dressed for the occasion in a festive, albeit unexpected, ensemble.
She tucked a low-key gray t-shirt into a pair of high-waisted, cropped and flared jeans. Her black Gucci boots poked out from underneath a sweeping, floor-length fuzzy sweater adorned with vivid rainbow stripes. The cozy, technicolor number featured gold glitter trim around the neckline and wrists.
It's been a while since rainbow stripes have been on-trend, perhaps even since Holmes played Joey Potter in her popular early aughts series. But she's not the only one dusting off her bright stripes lately. Sarah Hyland, Kylie Jenner, and Selena Gomez have been rocking the throwback trend. Julia Roberts even went full-on technicolor with a striped Valentino maxi dress and matching jacket during an appearance in early Dec., too.

They're no longer relegated to children's sweaters and vintage t-shirts from the '70s; rather, you can find these stripes on high-end handbags, maxis, coats, and more.
