Lady Gaga Takes A Stab At Winter’s Biggest Coat Trend
It appears as though Lady Gaga has a thing for light blue. First, she infused her signature platinum-blonde locks with streaks of azure for her Las Vegas residency tour. Then, she showed up to the 76th annual Golden Globes Awards in the most striking, periwinkle Valentino Couture gown. And now, it's Lady Gaga's blue trench coat that suggests she may have officially adopted a new signature shade this season. Watch out Living Coral — Gaga is here to make blue the color of 2019.
The singer had quite a memorable 2018 — she confirmed her engagement to Christian Carino during Elle's 25th Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration back in Oct. and made her acting debut in the Golden Golden-nominated film, A Star Is Born. It seems 2019 is going to be another incredible (and busy) year for her, too.
After starting Jan. on a high note by snagging a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for "Shallow," she's been enjoying a bit of downtime in Los Angeles before flying back to Vegas to continue her Enigma tour. On. Jan. 7, the singer was photographed — sans blue hair, by the way— in Hollywood, attending the hand and footprint ceremony for her A Star Is Born co-star, Sam Elliot.
For the special occasion, Lady Gaga donned what is perhaps one of her most toned-down looks to date (and possibly one of her best, too). Her L.A. winter outfit consisted of a light-blue, '70s-inspired leather trench coat that landed right at the knee and features a double-breasted design, practical side pockets, and a statement waist belt.
Gaga wore a black, chain-neck Alexander Wang sweater underneath the longline leather coat, topping off the ensemble with classic black Christian Louboutin pumps and a coordinating black Celine handbag. The singer returned to her platinum-blonde roots (pun intended) and rocked the perfect retro-inspired makeup look: a statement cat eye combined with a bright-red lip.
Though Gaga isn't typically one to follow trends — she's perfected her eclectic, maximalist style and has stuck to it over the years — she appears to be fully on board with the leather trench coat craze that's been gaining ground as of late. Everyone from Kendall Jenner to Kourtney Kardashian to Gigi Hadid have been rocking the Matrix-y piece, and it'll only be a matter of time until it finds its way into your wardrobe, as well.
What's so special about Gaga's coat, though, is that it feels slightly less grungy than those spotted on past celebrities. That's because it's rendered in subtler, softer shade. If you don't want to exude full-on '90s vibes, but still want to get in on the leather coat trend, make like Gaga and opt for one in a poppier hue.
