The Skirt You Loved In High School Is Making A Comeback & Laura Harrier Is On Board
While the majority of old-school trends are best left in the past (remember your pencil-thin eyebrows from the early aughts?), there's a handful of throwback favorites that actually deserve a second chance in the spotlight. Case in point: Laura Harrier just wore a plaid skirt that looks like it was plucked straight from your high school wardrobe, only this time, it's considerably chicer. The perfect way to add a touch of edge to your look, plaid minis are a retro-inspired trend you'll want to get on board with (again).
Harrier arrived at Louis Vuitton's Paris Fashion Week show on March 6 in a look that subtly paid homage to the classic '90s film, Clueless. The actor wore a turquoise, plaid mini skirt with a split, wrapped hemline and a thick, leather waist section. She paired the statement skirt with a ribbed turtleneck sweater in white and a tailored, leather blazer that featured gold buttons and pushed-up sleeves.
The 28-year-old used her accessories to keep with the theme of the look, an intersection between vintage style and modern trends. Opting for a simple shoe, Harrier sported a black sock boot with a rounded toe and a block heel. She carried Louis Vuitton's Toupie bag in black, a miniature, diamond-shaped purse with gold hardware.
Although Harrier's been known to experiment with colorful makeup and daring hairstyles, she opted for an understated glow for the final leg of fashion month. The actor finished off the look in the most elegant way with long braids, a flick of eyeliner, and nude lips.
Your fall and winter wardrobe may be well acquainted with plaid trousers or flannel button-downs, but a plaid skirt is a polished way to elevate a mini come springtime. Style it like Harrier by pairing your skirt with a simple turtleneck, a leather jacket, and ankle boots, or dress it down with a graphic t-shirt, embellished hair clips, and colorful sneakers.
