Meghan Markle Just Channeled Kate Middleton’s Favorite Outfit
Although she often opts for protocol-bending looks, the Duchess of Sussex is no stranger to a formal ensemble. But even when Meghan Markle takes style cues from her royal sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, the 37-year-old has a way of adding a personal touch to each of her looks. Case in point: the green coat dress Meghan Markle wore on Mon. morning, which fused tradition and style in the best way possible.
The mother-to-be stepped out with Prince Harry on March 11 to attend a Commonwealth Day Youth Event at Canada House in London. Right in line with the theme, Markle chose a coat dress by Canadian designer Erdem. The emerald green coat was rendered in a felt material and featured black sequins, floral embellishments, matching black buttons, and rolled-up sleeves.
The duchess accessorized with one of her all-time favorites: a pair of black slingbacks by Aquazzura with playful bows on the back, complemented by a matching black box clutch with silver hardware. Bronzed cheeks, nude lipstick, and her classic hairstyle — a voluminous, messy bun with face-framing pieces — rounded out the stunning look.
While shades like lime, deep olive, and pale sage have been sweeping the style charts as of late, Markle's emerald jewel tone is a welcome addition to the growing list of popular green hues. This luxurious-looking color may be closely associated with fall and winter, but the duchess's sunny day look proves you'll want to wear it all through the spring season, too.
It seems as if Markle's been taking notes from Middleton's recent fashion statements, as the Duchess of Cambridge was photographed in a similar green coat while visiting Blackpool on March 6.
Although Middleton's piece lacked Markle's hint of embellished sparkle, the color, cut, and hemline were nearly identical. Middleton made it a bit more casual by opting for knee-high boots, a cozy scarf, and black gloves. She completed the weather-conscious ensemble with a ponytail, rosy cheeks, and diamond drop earrings.
