Meghan Markle Wore A Coat As A Dress At Princess Eugenie’s Wedding
Five months following her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle returned to Windsor Castle on Oct. 12 for Princess Eugenie's ceremony. Continuing her streak of menswear-inspired pieces, the Duchess of Sussex's outfit relied on sharp tailoring and clean lines. Meghan Markle's navy coat dress by Givenchy is about to be your outfit inspiration for fall and winter weddings.
Markle has a busy month ahead of her. Just days before her and Prince Harry's official royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji, Markle made an appearance at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's highly anticipated wedding on Fri. morning. And unlike the pleated, colorful dress she wore to Charlie Van Straubenzee's wedding in Aug., the Duchess opted for a neutral, all-navy ensemble.
It comes as little surprise that Markle looked towards one of her favorite designers — Givenchy — for the perfect dress. Longer than her iconic mini blazer, Markle's coat dress buttons all the way to her neck and hits just below her knee. The Duchess coordinated her dress with a blue fascinator by Noel Stewart, navy Manolo Blahnik pumps, and minimal, understated jewelry.
She did, however, add a pop of color to the all-navy ensemble with a two-toned clutch. Allowing the coat to stand on its own, Markle swept her hair into her signature messy bun with a few loose, wispy pieces.
The last time Markle stepped into St. George's Chapel in a Givenchy dress was the day of her own wedding to Prince Harry. The French label holds high significance in the Duchess' wardrobe. Not only did she choose a Givenchy gown for her own ceremony (by way of the brand's British designer Claire Waight Keller, of course), but she has also worn the designer's pieces for many royal firsts.
Markle wore a Givenchy dress, for instance, during her first solo outing with the Queen in June, then again to her first Royal Ascot in July. She wore a Givenchy suit on her first international tour with Prince Harry to Ireland, two days in a row.
Then, who could forget about the sheer-and-velvet black dress she wore to her very first entirely solo engagement in Sept.? The Duchess opened the Oceana exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts in London in the sleek Givenchy piece four months after marrying into royalty.
The dress coat Markle sported Fri. was the perfect choice for a fall wedding, and you should follow her lead for all your upcoming formal events. The jacket works double duty for both style and warmth, a balance that's often tough to get right during colder months. And because it's too chilly to show a lot of skin, but not necessarily cold enough to go full-length just yet, Markle's coat is the ideal best-of-both-seasons item. Its rich navy hue is both autumn-appropriate and wedding-approved.
Even though you likely don't have any royal engagements to attend this season, a dress coat like Markle's is a must for all the formal events in your fall calendar just the same.
