Naomi Watts’ Floral Suit Is An Elevated Take On ‘70s Style
Botanical prints are no longer just a summer trend, as confirmed by Naomi Watts' floral suit. On Tues. night, the English actor sported fall-appropriate flowers to a Sotheby's art auction in New York. Her printed suit was a sophisticated, modern twist on a classic '70s look.
The Gypsy actor attended Sotheby's 27th Annual "Take Home A Nude" auction wearing the coolest '70s-inspired Sonia Rykiel separates. The matching bellbottom trousers and crepe button-up jacket were part of the designer's Resort 2018 collection. While the jacket is currently sold out, the flared pants are still available — and, better yet, they're 40 percent off.
Both pieces are navy and printed with retro red and baby-blue flowers, complimenting the throwback flared fit. The jacket is reminiscent of a cozy cardigan, but it's made of viscose and features a more structured fit. Watts styled the jacket with rolled up sleeves and synched the waist with a black belt for a polished look. Whether she paired the two-piece with Rykiel's matching flower-detail sandals is a mystery, as Watts' shoe choice was concealed by the super-long bellbottoms.
Watts is a board member of the New York Academy of Art, the auction's beneficiary. Other celebrities like Brooke Shields and Rupert Murdoch attended the charity event, as well.
Get The Look
The actor has actually been sporting tons of fun prints lately. She attended the New York Collection by Harry Winston at the Rainbow Room in Sept. wearing a lavender dress, again with a bold floral print. On the red carpet of the 75th Venice Film Festival just weeks before that, she opted for a black gown with a multi-colored butterfly across the chest.
Now, Watts is channeling the disco era in this printed pantsuit. '70s style is picking up steam right now: wide-leg trousers, velvet, corduroy, and wrap dresses are just a few throwback styles flooding the market. Retro, flared suits have seeped into the wardrobes of Meghan Markle, Olivia Wilde, Blake Lively, and Victoria Beckham, too.
Watts' throwback look is the perfect way to keep wearing floral print into fall. While bright, whimsical, and flowery dresses scream summertime, a pop of a colorful floral on a dark-hued pantsuit is perfect for an autumn look. Go full '70s by pairing your wide-leg trousers with patent heeled boots, or throw on a pair of suede mules. To break up the floral print, leave your jacket unbuttoned, finishing off the look with a crop top or tucked-in turtleneck.
