Olivia Palermo Has The Best Style Hack For Dressing Down A Suit
Olivia Palermo's latest outfit is your guide to making formal separates look like a casual, everyday look. The trendsetter attended the British Fashion Awards on Mon. dressed in a bright and festive Victoria Beckham design. If you're looking to dress down matching separates for your upcoming holiday party, look no further than Olivia Palermo's red suit.
London's annual Fashion Awards is the UK version of America's Met Gala, but instead of elaborate ball gowns and over-the-top ensembles, the event calls for a formal-but-not-too-extravagant dress code. Guests included Meghan Markle — who was there to honor her wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy — showing off her baby bump in a one-shoulder velour dress, as well as models Kendall Jenner, Naomi Watts, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Fashion mogul Olivia Palermo was, of course, in attendance, too. The businesswoman sported one of fellow guest Victoria Beckham's designs, a fiery red two-piece set featuring high-waisted, ultra-wide leg trousers and a structured, notched-lapel blazer.
It was the way Palermo dressed down the suit, however, with a casual black crew-neck t-shirt, that completed the look. She tucked her undershirt into the baggy trousers and rolled up the wrists of the sophisticated blazer to let the tee's sleeves poke through.
Get The Look
Beckham, herself, wore the same trousers during a New York City outing mere weeks before. The singer-turned-designer is known for wearing her own designs (almost exclusively) and paired these eye-catching pants with a '70s-inspired striped sweater in another dressed-down look.
Now, Palermo has made the statement trousers red carpet-ready by pairing them with their corresponding oversized blazer and dazzling Monica Vinader jewelry. She posted a photo of the look to Instagram with the caption, "Lady in red."
Perhaps the 32-year-old opted for the scarlet hue in light of the holiday season. Either way, this outfit is the perfect inspiration for your own upcoming party looks. While matching separates can be a risky move — sometimes edging on too business-formal — Palermo makes the set look trendy and casual by wearing it over a basic black tee and rolling up the sleeves.
The festive-yet-casual ensemble is the perfect balance of dressy and off-the-cuff that will have you asking "what, this old thing?" all evening long. Simply opt for a suit in a similar head-turning hue and your winning look certainly won't go unnoticed. You'll have Palermo's effortlessly nonchalant outfit to thank for making you the best dressed at every holiday party to come. Cop her look with one of The Zoe Report's favorite combos, ahead.
