Kate Middleton wasn't the only royal trendsetter in the house at the National Portrait Gallery Gala on Tues. night. Wearing a sleek burgundy velvet dress and shoes, Princess Beatrice's look was one of the highlights of the evening. Forget everything you know about velvet, because Her Royal Highness put a whole new spin on the trend.

The gala brought out quite a distinguished crowd on Tues. David and Victoria Beckham were there to mingle with Kate Middleton, and Princess Beatrice — who was the maid of honor at her sister Princess Eugenie's wedding in 2018 — was in attendance, too.

Although the charity event was held to benefit art initiatives, you could have easily confused it for a fashion show. Middleton was there in an Alexander McQueen floral gown and the designer extraordinaire Victoria Beckham herself wore the baggiest trousers with bright-fuchsia pumps.

Princess Beatrice was a serious contender for best dressed, though, showing up in head-to-toe velvet. The royal wore a long-sleeved fit-and-flare in rich burgundy velvet. An Alaïa design, the dress features a collar, a button-up bodice, and tiered ruffles on the skirt. The royal added her own flair to the look, adding a wide belt around the waist and opting for velvet platforms by Jimmy Choo.

Princess Beatrice clearly knows a thing or two about style. On Christmas Day, for example, the royal wore knee-high boots and leather gloves with her nautical-style coat dress while attending church service alongside the Queen, Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and the rest of the family.

She's always keeping up with the trends, but she seems to be particularly fond of velvet. Princess Beatrice actually wore a similar look in Nov., which consisted of another burgundy velvet dress — again, with long sleeves, a tiered skirt, and a wide belt around the waist.

Her latest velvet-on-velvet outfit shows just how much she loves the chic tufted fabric. If you do, too, then cop her look and similar options, ahead.
