The Golden Globes Look Rachel Zoe Can't Stop Thinking About
Starting 2020 off with a sartorial bang, the first award show of the year provided a veritable smorgasbord of looks. There was a garden variety of silhouettes and trends to choose from, ranging from striking red gowns to tailored pantsuits, with a hefty smattering of sequins in between. Naturally one of the original red carpet stylists and our editor-at-large, Rachel Zoe, was watching the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards closely and saw several ensembles that felt particularly special.
For starters, the evening saw the return of Old Hollywood glamour — think Jennifer Aniston's Dior gown — and a refreshing array of risk-taking — such as Gwyneth Paltrow's sheer Fendi — in equal measure. And even more exciting, was the presence of designers such as Thom Browne (worn by Cynthia Erivo) and Iris Van Herpen (worn by Joey King), as well as a strong showing for British designer Mary Katrantzou (worn by Cate Blanchett and Jodie Comer). How better to kick off a fresh decade than by incorporating some newness into the awards season mix?
But, as always, it was the stars who embraced their personal style who really won the carpet. "You can't fabricate confidence," says Zoe. Ahead, the top looks that caught her eye.
Zoë Kravitz In Saint Laurent
"Zoe is the definition of effortless cool. This polka-dot print gown would look kitschy on anyone else but she carries it with her signature edge perfectly."
Nicole Kidman In Versace
"The ultimate in high-impact simplicity, this highlights her statuesque frame and feels incredibly modern styled with minimal accessories and straight hair."
Zoey Deutch In Fendi
"The color and silhouette are so striking on her, and I love that she paired it with sapphires. The sleek hair and makeup keep the overall effect incredibly youthful."
Renée Zellweger In Armani
"What a triumphant return! Not only did she win, but she looked absolutely timeless in this Armani column and coordinated pumps in the most divine shade of periwinkle."
Priyanka Chopra In Cristina Ottaviano
"For so many people this is an incredibly difficult shade of pink, but she wears it so beautifully. I adore the classic glamour of this silhouette and her polished waves."
Reese Witherspoon In Roland Mouret
"This look is so perfect for Reese at this moment in time. She's such a multi-hyphenate boss and this no frills, crisp white gown is the perfect choice. I love the diamond climbers, slicked bob and sultry smoky eye for added interest."
Sienna Miller In Gucci
"Sienna always looks like she just breezed in from Ibiza. Her bohemian hair and clean makeup keep this citrus Gucci gown from looking fussy."
Kerry Washington In Altuzarra
"Who would have thought a head-to-toe black look would have been the most head-turning of the night? Kerry pulls off this striking ensemble with ease and looks absolutely flawless."
Margot Robbie In Chanel
"This intricately embellished Chanel gown (with pockets!) strikes the perfect balance between elegance and effortlessness. For a star who is enjoying so much well-deserved attention, it's refreshing to see her take to the carpet in something that allows her to really shine."
Laura Dern In Saint Laurent
"Another star at center stage who took home a coveted award in a breezy and laid-back look. Her fresh take on '70s glamour felt spot on and oh-so-chic."
