Meghan Markle Just Wore Her Favorite Color Again — Here’s Where To Buy The Duchess’ Perfect Coat
Since becoming a royal, the Duchess of Sussex has made two things clear when it comes to her personal style: She loves a good coat and she looks good in vibrant blues. It makes sense, then, that the outfit she wore to the launch party for her new charity cookbook Thurs. combined the two. Meghan Markle's blue coat may be one of her strongest looks yet — and it's about to inspire you to add some color to your outerwear lineup this season.
Markle arrived at Kensington Palace in London alongside Prince Harry and a surprise guest, her mom Doria Ragland, to celebrate the Duchess' new cookbook, Together: Our Community Kitchen. The book (which hits stores on Sept. 25 and will retail for $16.99) is a philanthropy project that benefits women affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire. The collection features international recipes from members of the Hubb Community Kitchen in West London — and at the launch party, Markle even joined the women in whipping up a meal or two.
The new author showed up to the event in a black-on-black turtleneck and midi-skirt combo paired with simple black pumps. But the real standout, of course, was her blue, single-breasted trench by Canadian label Smythe. The Peaked Lapel Coat (which is surprisingly still in stock) features an exaggerated collar and a long, ankle-grazing length.
The Duchess of Sussex's dates opted for a more subdued color palette — Doria dressed in her usual modestly unfussy aesthetic wearing a monochrome nude number and Harry chose simple, navy trousers and a gray blazer.
This isn't the first time Markle has opted for this rich, blue hue in recent weeks. The Duchess wore a Jason Woo dress of the same color and matching Aquazzura pumps to the 100 Days to Peace Gala in London earlier this month, and in June, she wore a blue V-neck Carolina Herrera midi dress to the Sentebale Polo Cup.
Smythe, the brand behind the vibrant wool coat, is a collaboration between designers Andrea Lenczner and Christie Smythe that launched its debut line of blazers and coats in 2014. Markle — who has made her appreciation for simple and classic silhouettes very clear — appears to be a big fan.
The Duchess has chosen Smythe pieces for many of her royal engagements. An immediate fan favorite was Markle's oversized, cozy Brando Coat in the perfect camel hue. She's also worn a handful of the brand's sweaters, as well as its super warm Flak Jacket, which features a unique, faux-fur collar. Both styles, of course, have quickly sold out. Markle isn't the brand's only notable fan. Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomi Watts, Amber Heard, and Blake Lively are all repeat wearers of Smythe, too.
If Markle's bright-blue Peaked Lapel Coat has turned you onto the brand, you should probably get it while you can — seeing as it's one of Smythe's best-selling items. As temperatures officially begin to drop, Markle's coat is bound to sell out quickly.
