You Can Finally Shop Simone Rocha’s Moncler Collection — But It’s Selling Out Fast
Sometimes the buzz around certain collections is so huge, you know that when the drop comes around it's going to sell out fast. Such is the case for the 4 Moncler Simone Rocha launch, part of iconic skiwear manufacturer Moncler's Genius project. First announced last season, the project invites designers to collaborate on fully immersive collections that produce varied interpretations on the brand's core offerings. Rocha's pieces became available Sept. 20 at Moncler's online boutique and in store, just in time to build out your cold-weather wardrobe before temperatures start to drop.
Rocha looked directly to nature for inspiration on the full-range collection, which is already flying off shelves — multiple jacket styles, a quilted nylon skirt, and a double-breasted overcoat are already sold out. More specifically, she drew on the concept of mountains and Victorian-era hikers to create pieces that combine femininity and function. The result? Voluminous takes on Moncler's famed down coats, jackets and vests, replete with ruffles, frills, and intricate embellishments. Each piece varies in price between $1,415 to $4,560 and is fashioned in her signature — and very wearable — colors of black, red, pink, ivory and white.
Outerwear standouts include a floral-and-sequin belted down jacket, $4,560, which features an oversized collar and balloon sleeves, and a hooded down jacket, $2,495, with cascading ruffles and pearl details. (The latter has already sold out in two of the four available colors.)
Also central to the collection are whimsical iterations of the brand's knitwear, featuring macramé florals and lace trimmings at the hems. Rocha's attention to detail is apparent in her $930 sweatshirt with a pearl-trimmed collar and a $2,210 floral and sequin-adorned cardigan, proving her ability to elevate even the most basic wardrobe fixtures. Add either of these pieces to your rotation of standard knits for a better-than-basic take on the jeans, sweater, and boots combo for fall dressing. As Rocha presented, each piece layers under jackets and coats with ease, and since all of the designs are crafted using Moncler's cutting edge utility fabrics you'll never be sacrificing warmth for style.
The drop also includes Rocha's take on accessories for the brand. The faux-fur trimmed leather hiking clogs for $1,420 stick out as particularly on-trend with their chunky heel. When it comes to the collection's handbags, you'll find a successful fusion of classic Victorian style with the utility of hikers' packs and harnesses.
The sleek Small Backpack, which runs for $1,280, is already nearing sellout status and is ideal for schlepping daily necessities, while a petite pochette can easily replace your standby clutch for evenings out. Oversized sunglasses with floral décor and classic down gloves also feature heavily to equip the stylish skier for a day on the mountain, but play equally well on city streets.
Throughout her designs, Rocha paid special care to maintaining the practicality and core values of Moncler. The ski brand is synonymous with "protection, activity, ambition, refinement," Rocha said in a press release, and her interpretation proves that beauty can indeed be utilitarian.
