There's a lot to take in this time of year. Adjusting to the temperature change is one seasonal situation that takes, well, time. Freshening up your wardrobe is another demanding undertaking to tackle right now, too. But perhaps the top to-do to scratch off your list is getting up to speed on all of fall 2019's fashion trends. Enter, the cardigan, the cozy knit that's perhaps the most sought-after piece of the season — and as luck would have it, the popular essential has earned one royal's stamp of approval already. Hint: It's Kate Middleton, and she just made the closet staple look as chic as ever.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrapped up their royal tour of Pakistan on Oct. 18, but the fashion obsessed are still relishing in all of Middleton's gorgeous royal tour outfits, many of which were a beautiful tribute to the country's culture. The color green was perhaps the most prevalent in her ensembles — and that was likely for two reason. First, she's always been a fan of the verdant hue, which just so happens to be one of 2019's biggest color trends, and secondly, it was a touching way to represent Pakistan's flag.

But there's one particular outfit she sported that really caused a buzz (all of her looks have this effect, but the appeal of this one is simply undeniable). On Oct. 18, the duchess visited the Army Canine Centre in Islamabad, wearing a chic black-and-white ensemble that consisted of crisp, ivory trousers. On top, Middleton sported a mid-length white tunic top, rounding out the look with a contrasting black, longline coat that felt right in line with 2019's cardigan trend.

Middleton's take on the reigning jacket trend was decidedly more refined. Her version hailed from Beulah's Fall 2014 collection and featured a long, streamlined silhouette, small, tuxedo-inspired lapels, and a row of black buttons.

She rounded out her daytime look with a set of drop earrings and black suede flats from British footwear retailer, Russell & Bromley. As per usual, her hair was styled in loose, bouncy waves.

As Middleton demonstrates so effortlessly, the cardigan trend is quite versatile. Although you've likely seen a plethora of more casual wool or cable-knit iterations on celebs like Bella and Gigi Hadid, sleeker options à la the duchess are just as sought after. Simply look for elevated details (read: chic pearl buttons, satin lapels, etc.) that give the piece a more sophisticated touch.
