The Serums You Need Once You Turn 30, According To Derms
Your skin is constantly evolving — going through stages of cell turnover, strengthening, and restoration. And like you, it ages. And with that comes visible changes like fine lines, wrinkles, and dullness which all call for special attention and specific skincare products like a serum for mature skin.

"As your skin ages, look for a serum that addresses your skins specific needs. The skin commonly develops brown spots, lines and wrinkles, laxity, dryness, and dullness, all of which can be addressed with specific [formulas]," Dr. Joshua Zeichner, Director of Cosmetic & Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, tells TZR.
But no skincare product — even one for a specific age range — is a one-size-fits-all: For those with dry skin, look for vitamin E (an antioxidant, that protects cells from oxidative damage); niacinamide (which improves skin elasticity and increases ceramide levels in skin); glycolic acid (which gently exfoliates and lightens discoloration); and hyaluronic acid (which retains moisture), according to Dr. Howard D. Sobel, New York City dermatologist and founder of Sobel Skin, notes. For those with dull looking skin, antioxidants like green tea extract, resveratrol, and ferulic acid are smart ingredients to look for, too.
To ensure the full benefits of your serum is absorbed into your skin, be sure to apply it after washing your face. "I'd apply it to a dry face and neck usually twice daily, but there's nothing wrong with doing it at night only," says Dr. Raheleh Sarbaziha, an aesthetic medicine and anti-aging expert. "I recommend keeping a tailored but simple skin care regimen with good quality skin products that you follow religiously."
Ahead, 12 serums that are worth adding to that well-choreographed routine.
