You know what they say: Sooner or later, everything old is new again. Those trends you fondly remember sporting in seasons (even decades) past eventually make their way back around into the fashion world's good graces, providing you with another opportunity to work the throwback style into your wardrobe. And speaking of throwbacks, a certain popular '90s shoe trend is making a serious comeback — but with a totally current twist. The Melissa x Opening Ceremony collab gives fans of the jelly sandal a 2019 way to wear the silhouette, and it's even more stylish than you'd expect.

It's hard to imagine the bright and whimsical style of the '90s without one of the decade's hallmark shoe silhouettes, the jelly sandal. They were imaginative, playful, and unlike anything the fashion world had seen before, and they quickly became a summer staple thanks to their versatility and durability (you could wear them to the pool without fear of getting them wet, but they worked just as well for running around town). And while they might've been forgotten by many over the past several years, they're coming back now — all thanks to the brand who made them popular in the first place.

Brazilian shoe brand Melissa has teamed up with fashion girl favorite Opening Ceremony to drop a very 2019 take on the jelly sandal, just in time for summer. The Melissa x Opening Ceremony collab, which launched online and in select stores on June 27 ahead of a worldwide release on July 12, presents three brand-new silhouettes in both playful and neutral color palettes, all made in Melissa's signature vegan plastic material for plenty of '90s nostalgia and charm.

"We are so excited to partner with Melissa this season," Carol Lim, co-founder of Opening Ceremony, said in an official statement. "When Humberto and I visited Brazil in 2002, we discovered this super comfortable, creative footwear brand and have admired Melissa ever since. This collection marks our first collaboration together and celebrates the youthful, spirited aesthetic of both brands."

And though the collab calls to mind the plastic shoes you sported a few decades back, the three new jelly styles that Melissa and Opening Ceremony dreamt up are decidedly current. The Flip presents the duo's take on the currently-popular slide, the Ladii is a playful PVC iteration of a trendy block-heeled mule, and the Hatch presents a 2019 version of the classic buckle-strap jelly sandal.

Fans of super-bright summer-ready colors will want to score the Flip, $98, in its pink and orange color way or the Ladii, $149, in any of the vivid color combinations it comes in, from orange and teal to bright lime green. But if you prefer a more classic, versatile hue, snag the Hatch, $119, in Nude, a transparent tan shade — consider it a summer stand-in for your simple brown leather sandals that have seen too much wear.

Whatever you choose, it's safe to say you'll be feeling all the nostalgia when you slip into the new generation of jelly sandals. But these are even better than the pair you wore back in the day, because they'll go perfectly with all the rest of the of-the-moment pieces in your closet. Snag them for yourself below, or at Opening Ceremony and Galeria Melissa stores in New York, London, and Sao Paulo.
